Bev Burke, President
Bev has 30 years of experience writing and designing clear language materials.
Bev has a unique ability to communicate with readers who struggle with literacy or who are new to the English language. Bev specializes in making information more accessible, and consistently produces materials that are accurate, interesting, and easy to read. Bev’s special expertise in combining writing and design will ensure that your audience will understand your main messages.
For 26 years, Bev produced the English Express newspaper for the Government of Alberta. By 2010, the newspaper was distributed to readers in 250 Alberta communities, and the circulation was 60,000 per issue. Bev produced hundreds of news and human interest stories, and articles about health, recreational activities, culture, gardening, cooking, history, and much more. Readers came from diverse backgrounds and ranged in age from 6 to 90.
While editor of English Express, Bev worked with various Alberta government departments to produce special issues on complex topics including employment standards, workplace health and safety, influenza, family violence, and human rights.
Bev has a special interest in developing materials below the Grade 8 reading level.
Bev is a life-long learner and is constantly improving her skills. She is currently learning more about using the web to help distribute information to lower literacy adults.
Corinna Ruhl, Associate
Corinna has been with Simply Put Consulting Inc. since 2005.
Over the past six years, she has developed excellent desktop publishing skills. She enjoys the creative work of page layout and design, and excels in producing photographs for print and web.
Corinna finds creative visual solutions to communicating difficult information. She is interested in the relationship between design and readability.
Corinna enjoys photography and filmmaking. She continues to pursue educational opportunities in digital video, photography, writing, and editing.
